International Womens Day
If your company is looking for an empowering and impactful experience for this International Women’s day, I invite you to host a women’s circle.
Why women’s circles?
Sitting in a circle helps us to fully see each other as peers sharing meaning, creativity, and a common center. When we sit together in a circle there is no status, there is no one in front of us or no one behind us, we sit as human beings all on this path together, listening, exploring and experiencing life. It’s also a place of non-judgement, empowerment and confidentiality.
A new study from two Canadian business schools suggests: If people are sitting in a circle, they’re more apt to cooperate, while if they’re arranged into rows, they’ll become more independent and cutthroat.
In the community I run them as a 2.5 to 3 hour workshops for 10 to 15 people using a blend of Meditation, Mindfulness, creativity and life coaching. In a corporate setting, they can be tailored to suit the company employee’s needs and wants.
To give you an example, here is an outline of a workshop I ran recently called New Year: Intentions and Reflection’s – letting go of 2019 to embrace 2020 with intention (3 Hours)
Format: We opened with an overview and introduction. Introduction and a mindfulness practice to arrive, centre and set themselves up for the next few hours.
We then dedicated the first half to reflection (using Life coaching, journaling and constructive reflective questions). I invited the group to write answers to questions similar to the below:
What was your greatest learning 2019?
What were your three biggest challenges and how did you get through the?
What would you like to leave behind?
What will help you navigate and meet any challenges in 2020?
This brought a lot of a-ha moments for the class. They became aware of behaviour’s, patterns and beliefs that weren’t serving them, both at home and at work. Due to the “safe space & confidentiality” of the circle they felt free to share this information with the group which sparked insights in others.
I then lead them through a guided meditation to help them let go of any emotional baggage related to the reflective piece
After a brief break we moved to the second half of the workshop during which I guided the participants through a meditation to help them to connect with an intention for the next 1 or 3 months. An intention is different to a goal, for example and intention is to be brave, a goal is to go to the gym 3 times a week.
We used creativity as a way to easily remind them of this intention which they will work with for as long as they need and finally we did a mindfulness meditation to embody it.
It was quite a special morning and everyone left motivated and clear on what they wanted to bring into their lives.
“It was such a wonderful memorable experience for me, and the best thing I have done for myself in a very long time. I have gained so much more awareness, acceptance and connection in a loving, warm and safe environment. I took a very special experience, knowledge and understanding away. Thank you so much, Ria. “
