Samhain

October 31, 2017

So what is Samhain all about?

Our ancestors marked the turning of the seasons through their observation of the natural world and each of the 8 significant days on the Wheel has certain myths, traditions and ceremonies associated with it. They are as follows:

Samhain (SOW-in) represents the final harvest before the long winter and this year it takes place on Monday the 6th of November.  It is traditionally celtic New Year, a time to celebrate what we have harvested and also to take stock to see what we wish to bring with us to the next chapter of our lives. It is also a time to honor our ancestors .

There is more darkness at this time that there is light which invites us to rest, to daydream and to reflect on the year that has been.

You can mark Samhain in your own way with a fire ceremony if you know how to do one, otherwise sit with a pen and paper and answer the questions below. Let the responses come from your heart not your head and see what shows up on the page. Afterwards, burn the piece of paper, a symbolic way of letting go.

  • Reflecting on the year that has been (since Samhain 2017, November 7th), what has worked for you? In terms or new patterns, behaviours, ideas, hobbies?

  • What has decayed now and needs to be released? What no longer serves your highest good?

  • What are you grateful for in your life right now?

  • What would you like to invite into your life now for the next year?

  • Has there been a death in the family this year and would you like to honour them in some way?

If you're Reiki trained you can join me on Thursday the 9th of November for a Samhain Reiki Share. For further details and to register your place, please click here.
